1. Who we are, and Steam
SUSPECIES is made by JALEX STUDIOS LTDA ("JALEX Studios", "we"), Minas Gerais, Brazil, CNPJ 40.723.169/0001-94: support@jalexstudio.com. These terms are an agreement between you and us about the game; our Privacy Policy says what data it uses.
You get the game through Steam. Buying it, payments, refunds (see Steam Refunds) and your Steam account follow Valve's Steam Subscriber Agreement; these terms add to it for the game itself. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under the law where you live, such as Brazil's Consumer Defence Code.
2. Who can play
You need a Steam account, which Steam allows from 13 years old. If you are under 18, play with a parent's or guardian's permission. For parents: see the Privacy Policy.
3. Your license to play
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to play the game for your own entertainment. Please don't sell or rent copies of it, cheat in a way that spoils it for other players, or attack the servers it plays on.
4. Online play
SUSPECIES is played online, through Photon (Exit Games) and Steam. We work to keep it running, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors, and we may change online features to keep the game working, fair and safe.
The player who hosts a room chooses whether it's Private (joined by code or Steam invite), Friends (shown to the Steam friends of its players) or Open (listed for anyone), and can start rounds, change its settings and remove players from the lobby between rounds.
5. What you make
Your sculptures, theme packs, backdrops, maps, names and messages stay yours. You let us and the players in your rooms send, show, store and copy them, free of charge and worldwide, as far as the game needs: for example, your sculptures are sent to everyone in your room and cached on their PCs. What you publish to the Steam Workshop also follows Steam's terms, with the visibility you pick; a map you share with your room is published as Unlisted. Only use pictures and words you have the right to share.
6. How to behave
SUSPECIES is a party game among friends: a terrible disguise is funny; being cruel isn't. In the game, its chat, voice, names, sculptures and Workshop items, don't:
- harass, threaten or bully anyone, or post hateful content about race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age;
- violate the rights of children and teenagers: never approach a minor sexually, share sexual content involving minors, or pressure, deceive or exploit a minor;
- share sexual or pornographic content, content that encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders, or anything illegal;
- share anyone's personal information without their permission, or pretend to be someone else, including us or Valve;
- spam, scam, or ask players for passwords or payment details.
7. Reports
In a room, you can mute any player's voice, and the host can remove players from the lobby between rounds. You can report a player to Valve through Steam, report Workshop content with its Report button (it opens the item's Steam page), or write to us at support@jalexstudio.com with what happened, when, and the player's Steam name. Text from other players is filtered by Steam, according to your Steam settings. Reports are read by people; we don't scan content automatically ourselves. We report illegal content, including child sexual abuse material and terrorist content, to the authorities.
8. Videos and streams
Yes, please. You may stream SUSPECIES and post videos and screenshots of it, and earn money from them, as long as they show your own play or commentary and don't pretend to be official.
9. What is ours
The game, its art, characters, sounds and music, and the SUSPECIES name and logo belong to JALEX Studios or our licensors. Third-party software in the game is used under its own licenses, listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt beside the game's exe.
10. Health
Some people can have seizures from flashing lights, such as the disco's strobe lights. If you or anyone in your family has had seizures or epilepsy, ask a doctor before playing, and stop at once if you feel unwell. When you use webcam motion capture, clear the space around you.
11. Warranty and liability
We make the game with care, but, as far as the law allows, we provide it "as is", without promising it is free of bugs or runs on every PC. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for what other players do or say, for interruptions of services we don't run (Steam, Photon, your internet connection), for saves you didn't back up, or for indirect losses that weren't foreseeable. We are always responsible for harm we cause on purpose or by gross negligence, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and for anything else the law doesn't let us exclude.
12. Changes
We may change these terms when the game or the law changes. We publish the new version here with its dates, and tell players about important changes, for example in the game's Steam news. A change never takes away what you already bought or applies to the past. If you don't agree with a change, you can stop playing.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. As a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country, and may go to the courts where you live. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
